The heart bore no burden, the soul no scars, Dreams flar’d as lanterns and reach’d for the stars. Time was a river flowing deep and slow, With no bitter shadows to halt the hours' flow. The seeds of malice were as winds unblown, A kingdom of laughter, wherein none wore a throne. Now, the glow of screens enshroudeth the hearts in gray, Their siren light stealeth innocence away. They gild thy golden hours with a venom'd shine, And leave ye devoid of memory’s shrine. O children, flee from these enchanting screens, For life is far more than these dim-flickering scenes.
