Warmed by Her Sacrificial Flame

Warmed by Her Sacrificial Flame

One shy bouquet in my trembling mortal hands,
late to the door of knowing,
while you had hidden a whole spring
behind your ribs.

Between us burned the borders
we never chose:
borrowed names, inherited prayers,
and laws written by fear.

You loved in silence,
while I ran after passing colours,
afraid the truth would shatter my fragile mind.

I was behind bright butterflies,
deaf to the breathing fragrance of your nearness.

By the time I turned inward,
your love burned as sacrificial fire.
My petals fell to ash,
scenting the air with regret.

Too late, my heart arrived.
I stood alone,
 warmed by your flames,
and chose, at last,
to burn with you...
